Good News and Bad News

Well, we have some good news after Friday's doctor visits. Our first visit was with the ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat). Jackson's right ear appears to still have some fluid, but it is not infected which means the ear infection has cleared up. The doctor recommended that we wait and see what happens. Hopefully, he will not need tubes, but if it gets infected again, then we may have to look at getting tubes put in. I am thankful to not have to go through this surgery right now and we pray that we won't have to, but if we do, it is very routine and I know that Jackson will be in good hands.
Our second visit was with the pediatrician. Jackson is healthy and doing great! He really enjoyed talking with and flirting with the nurse practitioner :)
Here are his nine month stats:
Weight: 20 lbs. 11 oz. 48th percentile
Height: 29 inches 75th percentile
Head: 18 1/2 inches 48th percentile
I always feel like he is so big and chunky, but he's really average for his weight. I think it's because Brady was always very low in weight - there was one visit where I remember him being down in the 5th percentile after he started crawling and moving around more!
Now for the bad news!! Wednesday night I came home from a LONG day at work to find out that Jackson had fallen on a dining room chair. Apparently, he was pulling himself up on the chair and somehow lost his balance. He bumped his lip pretty bad and it bled for awhile. Brett put him to sleep around 7:30, but he either sucked the blood clot out while sucking on his pacifier or he just irritated it and it was bleeding again when I got home around 8:30. It looked really bad and I even called the doctor, but she told us to wait and it would probably get better. It did finally stop bleeding and although he was up a couple times during the night, by the next morning he was doing better and just had a fat lip :( This was his first big injury and it was SO hard to see him in pain. I'm just glad it wasn't anything more serious.
The first picture was taken Thursday morning. Brett chose a red outfit for him to match the bleeding.
This picture was taken on Friday. You can see a little swelling on his upper lip, but it's hard to notice a difference unless you really look closely.

And just so Brady doesn't feel left out...here he is being silly with his oranges at dinner last night!

Ears

For eight months, Jackson was in perfect health. He had not had one single ear infection!! This was definitely a change after having Brady with four ear infections during his first year. A month ago, I brought Jackson in to Urgent Care for a suspected ear infection. Sure enough - he had one! The doctor put him on the standard amoxicillin and it really didn't seem to be helping AT ALL. I even called after a few days to ask if they could do anything since he still had a temp. and seemed very bothered by his ear.

About two weeks ago, Brett took him in for his follow up visit and the ear was still a little infected. The doctor told us to give it one more night to see if the infection would clear up on it's own, but it did not. He was put on his second antibiotic and seemed to be doing much better.

Last Saturday morning, he had his last dose of Cefdinir and we thought that he was doing great, but on Tuesday I had to leave work early and take him in to the doctor because he was screaming and really acting like he was in a lot of pain. Sure enough....the ear was still infected and it was pretty badly infected too :(

He is now on Augmentin (not sure if I spelled that right) and we have an appointment with the Ear Nose and Throat specialist for next Friday. It is looking like this little guy will have to have tubes put in. I think this will be harder for me than it is for him and I know that this is a very routine procedure and really helps a lot, but it's so hard to have to think about Jackson getting ANY kind of surgery :(

I will keep you updated, but please keep us in your prayers. We only want what's best for Jackson and if surgery is going to help him then we are okay with that, but it's going to be rough :(

Bubba & Lou

For those of you who may not know....Bubba and Lou are Brett's grandparents :) Saturday morning we made a trip up to visit them at their house on Big Pine Island Lake. The original plan was to go tubing/sledding, but obviously with the warm weather and melting snow that didn't happen :) We had lots of fun just hanging out and spending time together.

On the ride up, we all packed into Bamma Shelley's car and Papa D came with us. Jackson enjoyed trying out Brady's sunglasses :)Brady enjoyed looking out the window and seeing all the people on the lake - fishing, sledding, and playing hockey! Maybe next year we'll get out there on the ice :)

He also had a good time throwing around his ball - there were nice high ceilings so he could try to throw it WAY up!!

Jackson just enjoyed exploring as well as finding this cute guy in the glass of the fireplace. This was actually a lot funnier before I started recording him - of course!!

Both boys were wiped out after our visit and they fell asleep for the ride home :)

Thanks for having us Bubba and Lou!! We had a great time!

On a side note....I have been trying to publish this since Monday, but Blogger has not been letting me upload the video!! Sorry for the delay :)

Nine Months Old

I cannot believe that I am writing this post. On Saturday, Jackson was officially nine months old!! He is growing so fast and I was reminded of how much he's grown while visiting my friend Sheri and her new baby Conner! Jackson is SO happy, but he is still recovering from his first ear infection even after two antibiotics. I'm still not 100% sure that he's beat it! I don't have any stats for you because he doesn't go into the doctor until next week Friday! I will be sure to post the info as soon as I get it.
Jackson loves crawling and getting into anything and everything, pulling himself up on the furniture, playing with his brother's toys, eating (we just recently found the first food that he doesn't like - Beech Nut Turkey & Turkey Broth), laughing, and clapping. He has started to wave and make funny noises with his mouth and fist (I will try to post a video soon so you know what I mean).
He is such a sweetheart and we love him to pieces! We could not imagine our lives without him and it's so fun to watch him grow and learn SO many new things!!

3D Cartoons

Brett's parents came over for dinner tonight and to watch some of the Superbowl with us! Brady was pretty excited about seeing some cartoons in 3D and here's a picture of the boys (minus Jackson) with their glasses on!! I think they could definitely start a trend!! Thanks for coming over Bamma Shelley and Papa D!! We had lots of fun!
